Healthy Living…The Missing Element
When we think of healthy living – we usually limit it to doing “good” things for our bodies in terms of eating “right” and exercising. Some of us will (rightfully so) extend that to making sure our mental health is also being taken care of. I also believe that part of living a healthy, whole life is not just about working out, eating well, and and drinking turmeric juice, but also engaging in meaningful service and giving back to your community in ways that you are passionate about.
There are so many social ills around us; I think it actually affects us negatively when (1) we don’t pay attention to them (2) we get so overwhelmed and defeated by them that we don’t even know where to start. I’ve always been passionate about young people so I choose to devote my time to working with organizations that are helping youth, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, realize every single dream they have for themselves and more.
Do what Oprah Says
My favorite mantra from my spiritual Auntie, Oprah, is: do what you can. That’s what I adhere to (and let’s be real, I also do whatever Oprah tells me). So whether it’s walking a few times a week, eating an apple a day, tutoring students for a few nights a month, or working at a soup kitchen over the holidays, there is always a way to honor yourself and honor your community.
So what is “A Happy Serving”?
At A Happy Serving, you will find a glimpse into my life and how I try (really hard) to live and breathe my version of happiness both internally (mind, body) and externally (giving back to others). I hope to build a life for myself where service is just as commonplace as going for a run or buying Nike. Tune in to read more about my musings on fitness, wellness, food, and some amazing community organizations.
