I consume a great deal of online content to say the least. Some of my favorite things to read contain insights into people’s everyday lives. Life can be so hectic and I always wonder: how do people maximize their time, how do they balance all of their different responsibilities, and the most importantly – what time do people wake up in the morning?!
So I thought I would share a little day in the life post of my own. Here’s what I was up to yesterday :).
5:00 am – Alarm goes off. I spend the next five min deciding if I’m going to just smash my phone to pieces. I resist the STRONG urge to get on social media.
5:05 am – Get up; throw on workout clothes; splash water on face; spend 45 panicked seconds wondering where my keys are.
5:20 am – Drink a quick swig of water and then rush out the door to meet my Back on my Feet (BOMF) group. I should have left 5 min ago; my keys are my enemy.
5:30 am – Listen to my group leader’s announcements and then head out to do a 2 mile walk/run with a few BOMF members. I spend time chatting with a specific person about gentrification in Philly (he is 63 and has lived here all his life). Since he was recently ordained as a minister he starts talking about faith and shares with me some of his favorite Bible verses. I won’t even lie, I mostly listen but do manage to conjure up Galatians 6:9, which I think it a pretty good one as it speaks to persistence.
6:15 am – Listen to closing announcements and walk home. I attempt to run but i’m not feeling it.
6:30 am – Arrive home, make coffee, and whip my sports bra off (best feeling in the world).
6:45 am – Resist the urge to start reading some gossip blogs and opt to get some work and admin stuff done. My goals are to answer/follow-up on at least three emails, do two minor admin stuff for the blog (set up my pinterest account and fix my instagram slider), update my calendar for the week, and practice a little spanish (Donde estan las llaves?)
7:32 am – My husband heads to work. I quickly make fun of his outfit because we always do this to each other. He hates that I wear so much black, gray, and navy these days (I don’t have time to be putting together creative outfits anymore, plus I’m no fashionista). I make fun of his many, many colored Bonobos pants. After some ribbing, I head off to shower and get ready (while listening to an old episode of one of my favorite podcasts, The Read). I also spend an extra ten minutes wondering where the heck my blue blazer is. Now I know I’m going to be late for work. If I were more organized, maybe this wouldn’t happen almost every morning.
8:20 am – Gather my breakfast (overnight oats) and lunch (baked chicken thighs, quinoa, sweet potato, roasted brussel sprouts). I take off my headscarf; I’m quite pleased with how my edges look, lmao! I’m also a little frustrated because I really wanted to leave by 8:15 but alas, here I am.
8:25 am – Seriously WHERE ARE MY KEYS!!! Why are they so evil?!
8:30 am – Pick a morning podcast to listen to (The Axe Files episode with former Labor Secretary Tom Perez).
8:32 am – Get the heck out of my home and start walking; my job is a 30 min walk away.
8:35 am – I realize that I forgot my breakfast on the dining room table; it’s too late and I’m too mad at myself to go back home. I make sure I at least have my lunch. I’m so happy I keep oatmeal at my desk.
9:05 am – Arrive at work and get on it
5:30 pm – I quickly work on some essays for some leadership development programs I’m applying to.
6:00 pm – Get changed and head to Flywheel. I’m meeting up with my boss for class, cause she’s cool like that.
6:45 pm – FLYWHEEL 45 with instructor Alanna! This was a really good class, the music was great. I haven’t really worked out that much in 3 weeks so it was good to get back at it.
7:40 pm – My boss and I head to Honeygrow and grab take-out.
8:05 pm – Arrive home, shower, shovel food into my mouth.
8:30pm – FaceTime with my friend who lives in the Bay Area. We scheduled this weeks in advance because this is our lives now. If it’s not on my calendar, it’s not happening.
9:05 pm – I fall into an internet hole (Gossip blogs, Instagram, Facebook, New sites, you name it). I should be preparing for the next day and heading to bed to read, but reading about whatever Future just said about Ciara is much more fun. I also chat with my husband.
11:15 pm – Finally get frustrated with myself for wasting time and head to bed. Goodnight!
What is the one thing that is sure to ruin your morning timeline? I swear my keys are on a mission to ruin my life.
